Mira Gives Birth to (6) newborn puppies in Animal Control Truck...

This poor two year old Rottie (who we have named "Mira" ~ short for Miracle) has had quite a scary experience. She was either lost or abandoned, and ready to deliver puppies. When she gave birth to the first puppy, someone saw her and instead of just letting her have the rest of her babies, called Animal Control. When Animal Control came, instead of letting her continue to have the rest of her babies, they tried to catch her with a pole. This frightened dog, now having contractions and trying to have puppies is on a catch pole and trying to breath! She ended up have the rest of the babies in the Animal Control truck and finally in a shelter. No one claimed her and she had run out of time. Mira and her 6 newborn babies had to be out of the already very crowded shelter with no time to spare! NoVa Rottie Rescue picked them up and now mama and her 6 beautiful newborn puppies are safe.

Please give generously to help Nova with these precious little ones, their food, vitamins, vet bills, and everything else that involves raising babies. ANY amount you can spare would be greatly appreciated. We will post updates and let everyone know how they are doing and when we plan to start accepting applications. Once the puppies are 8 weeks old we will be sending them to other foster homes.

We will also need donations of the following items immediately:

Food: Mom will be eating Canned and Dry ProPlan Puppy Food, liquid vitamin suppliments containing Iron specifically for nursing mothers, Dannon Yogurt (vanilla or plain), and Pedilyte (unflavored);

Supplies for Welping Box: Blankets, lots of newspapers, flat carpet that has never been used (not shag);

Money:  Will will need money for Vet bills, specifically for medications, check-ups, spays, and neuters!

Update as of June 25, 2008 - We brought Mira and the babies home from the shelter today. We have a few early shots. They are 2-days old! Boy is it hard to photograph puppies!

Update as of July 20, 2008 - The new babies are about 3 1/2 weeks old and are turning into little cuties! They have discovered their voices so they bark, howl, growl, and make any noise they can. They are adorable but lots of work. They are eating on their own now and we hope to have them available by Mid-September for adoption. We are currently accepting applications. We do get A LOT of applications so please read our puppy criteria, be patient, and we will try to get back to as many people as possible. Unfortunately the puppies are not in a place that people can come to visit them.

Here they are just before bedtime...

Update as of July 22, 2008 - The babies are just about 4 weeks old! They will start the regular trips to the veterinarian in the near future. They want you to know that all the hugs, kisses, and contributions towards their veterinary bills are greatly appreciated. They should be ready for adoption after Labor Day.

Here they are playing with one of NoVa's volunteers...

Update as of July 30, 2008 - The puppies are growing up so quickly! Their foster mom fills up a gallon size bowl of food, 3-4 times a day. You should see them chow down! The puppies were dewormed on 7/23/08 for the first time and no roundworms appeared so they are just healthy, hungry, growing babies!

Update as of August 15, 2008 - We have approved several applications for the puppies to be placed after they have been spayed/neutered, but we still have one female and two males that we have not made any decisions on. We will continue to take applications for the three remaining puppies. If you are interested in applying, it is vital to read our Puppy Adoption Criteria and make sure that you meet the criteria before applying. The puppies will be ready to go to their new homes by mid-September!
