Meet Eden...NoVa's Newest Rescue!

We named her "Eden" meaning the beginning of life...
She was a stray. Her nails are so long she can barely walk. Her skin is hanging off of her in rolls. She is emaciated. Despite the way she looks and feels she manages to give kisses and wag her tail. She cannot lie down unless on a soft bed because of the pain she feels in her bones. She is a sweet dog that is very calm, and trusting. She is housebroken and well behaved, Eden is simply amazing. She is absolutely starved for attention though and I have to wonder who let her get this way. She has Lymes disease and Sarcoptic Mange. She cannot be spayed or have any vaccinations until her health improves, which will take time. But she is a proud dog. She is happy and smiles whenever she greets someone. This Rottie is a good dog that deserves a better life. We have promised her exactly that. Eden will need a lot of medication, dips, and constant vet care for a while until her health improves. She WILL get her health back, her hair will grow back, and someone will come along to love her. If you would like to help us with Eden's vet bills we would be very grateful and so would she.

Special thanks to the kindness of the "Angels" that sent her a coat and new collar!

Updates as of 3/20/2006 - Eden had a great visit with the vet today. And, she has gained some weight! Eden went from 65 lbs to 73 lbs so this is great news for her. Her appetite is coming back but because she was so badly starved, it is going to take time for her to return to normal Rottie weight. She is still on a host of medications and will have to keep taking them for a long time. She is now being treated for Lymes Disease as well as the horrible skin condition she has. Although her skin condition is improving, her progress is in baby steps. Eden is also beginning to show some affection. She loves to snuggle with her head, and will give her paw in return for a hug.
There is no doubt that Eden is very grateful for a warm home and good food. Her vet bill is not small and not going to be over any time soon. Please consider helping Eden get her health back by making a contribution on her behalf. This very sweet dog deserves a much better life than the one she had before she was rescued by NoVa.
Updates as of 3/29/2006 - We are making progress...Just check out these new photos of Eden!

In this picture Eden finally feels well enough to smile! |
She is recovering fast but has a long way to go. But her personality is back and she is happy. |
Updates as of 5/18/2006 - Eden has regained her health in every way EXCEPT for that deadly Lymes disease. Lymes disease can attack the kidneys and Eden has had it now too long for us not to worry about that. We are worried about whether Eden will eventually go into renal failure after she has come so far and fought so hard to live. Eden needs to visit the vet every two weeks for additional tests in order to carefully monitor her condition. This is causing us to incur unexpected expenses and may continue for several months. We need your help! Eden now needs financial help for the ongoing vet bills. She has made it this far and we are determined to do everything we can so she doesn't die. She has an incredible will to live!
PLEASE help Eden! Our vet bills are high and will continue to grow. We do not know how long we will have to continue monitoring her closely. We do know that this very sweet dog deserves a good life after the hideous one she previously had. Please consider helping Eden with a charitable donation to NoVa.

Eden asks God to give her the strength to fight the Lymes Disease she has.
Updates as of 5/24/2006 - Eden saw the vet today. She is improving! Her kidney function is normal and her protein levels went down which is great news and the Lymes is getting better. We will continue to monitor her closely for progress!
Updates as of 6/19/2006 - Eden continues to go back to the vet for tests to monitor her Lymes Disease. We are not sure how long this will take. We hope that she will have no permanent damage to her kidneys but we don't know yet.. Eden is not available for adoption at this time. We are not sure Eden will ever be available for adoption. If she has any kidney damage she will spend the rest of her life with Nova Rottweiler Rescue and every day will be another great day for her, making up for years of neglect.
Updates as of 8/14/2006 - Eden is healthy now but has one more Lymes test to go. In October she will get the "Western Block" which will determine if she is truly over it. It is hard to believe that this dog went from skin and bone, 35 lbs underweight, four different skin diseases, and near death to the dog she is today. Although Eden is now overweight, we'll take that compared to what we started with.
Updates as of 8/14/2006 - Eden has officially been adopted by a NoVA Rottie Rescue Volunteer. After spending all of the time and love caring for Eden, her rescue foster home decided to make Eden an official member of the family! Eden has found her forever home at last! The home she deserved in the first place.
NoVa wants to remind you that before you rehome your unspayed dog, please think of what happened to Eden.
